Wavelink Adds Push-To-Talk Functionality to Ruggedized Mobile Devices
with Wavelink Communicator
Company now shipping serverless solution for turning
voice-enabled computers into two-way radios
MIDVALE, UTAH—APRIL 21, 2009—Wavelink Corporation (www.wavelink.com) today announced the immediate availability of Wavelink® Communicator, a client-side, push-to-talk solution that enables organizations to use their existing ruggedized, voice-enabled mobile devices as two-way radios.
Wavelink Communicator provides push-to-talk communication that allows users to hold one-to-one (unicast) or one-to-many (multicast) conversations. It runs on any mobile or desktop voice-enabled computer running a Windows® platform and has been certified on both Motorola and Datalogic mobile devices. Two-way radio functionality is accomplished without requiring users to purchase additional devices or monthly usage plans. By residing completely client-side, it eliminates the need for costly server-side hardware and software and can be deployed in a matter of minutes.
“Organizations are rapidly recognizing the value of voice solutions across the enterprise,” said Tom Burke, director of worldwide product marketing for Datalogic Mobile. “At Datalogic, we are committed to customer convenience and value, and Wavelink Communicator is a useful application that adds more functionality to our mobile devices. This is exactly the type of solution companies are looking for right now where they can accomplish more and increase productivity by leveraging their current technology investments.”
Features of Wavelink Communicator include:
- One-to-one (unicast) and one-to-many (multicast) modes enable employees to communicate, across pre-defined groups or globally.
- Multiple channel support for setting up and labeling unique channels for different groups or departments. Users can also transmit across multiple channels simultaneously.
- Caller ID identifies the speaker as well as all other active participants on the channel.
- Paging function establishes a user-defined page key to initiate paging process.
- Beep on Talk to alert users when a call is established.
- Easy connectivity to the Help Desk through the push of a button. Through unicast and multicast connections, a worker can quickly reach out to the Help Desk or a co-worker(s) with any functional or training inquiries.
- Support for 802.11a/b/g wireless networks and computers running on Windows® CE, Windows Mobile® and Windows 2000/XP/Vista®.
“With Wavelink Communicator, organizations are able to enhance communication for employees across the enterprise, whether they are on the factory floor or in an office,” said Lamar Van Wagenen, president of Wavelink. “With the ability for more immediate communication among employees across their wireless network, businesses are able to be more agile and responsive.”
