Brady SI Integrates Wavelink Studio at Scholle Corporation

Improves Scholle Operations with Real-Time Wireless Data Access

CHALLENGE

Scholle Corporation has evolved into a multinational enterprise with over 2,000 employees supplying the world with such diverse products as bag-in-box packaging, metalized plastics and paper, flexible shipping containers, marine salvage devices and battery electrolyte. Scholle required greater enterprise visibility and strong reporting functionality to enable a faster, more efficient business. Advancements in technology over the years had left Scholle with disparate systems. Realizing the challenge of tying these systems together to gain their desired visibility led to their decision to implement an ERP system, specifically Baan V. Scholle knew real-time access to accurate data was critical to the success of their impending Baan V implementation.

SITUATION

Scholle´´s team knew Baan produced significant results and benefits. They were also aware of the huge amount of data required to achieve these results, and how gathering data could threaten worker productivity.

Recognizing real-time access to accurate data was critical to the success of the implementation, Scholle looked to Brady Systems Integration for an Automated Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technology solution to eliminate the heavy data burden on their employees. By automating their data collection processes, Scholle would have instant data capture providing accurate records of inventory movements, receiving, shipping and a host of warehouse and shop floor transactions.

SOLUTION

The solution Brady SI implemented for Scholle incorporated various elements of AIDC technology, from back-end connectivity and integration of data collection hardware to wireless middleware.

Brady Systems Integration used Wavelink Studio, an open application development and management platform, to rapidly develop and deploy Scholle´s wireless ADC applications. Because Wavelink Studio is designed for applications that improve business processes and mobile worker productivity, Brady SI was able to install an AIDC system that did not radically change their existing processes eliminating the need for extensive process training. Scholle was able to easily put the applications in test and install them in a matter of weeks.

Scholle considers their implementation a success and attributes a part that success to their employees´ receptiveness of the technology. Chris Ther, Applications Manager for Scholle´s Corporate IT, comments, "We feel that deploying our AIDC system at go-live helped improve the overall Baan implementation and encouraged pervasive use of the system."

Scholle now has improved real-time data capture; providing them with increased accuracy and efficiency within their business processes. They have true enterprise visibility throughout the US and have other global locations scheduled for rollout this year.

"The Automatic Data Collection system developed and implemented by Brady SI, with the use of Wavelink Studio, alleviates the large data entry burden required for our manufacturing and warehouse operations by significantly reducing the amount of time required to enter critical data," said Chris Ther. "The system has proven to provide us with greater efficiency and cost savings."

"Because of the way we did the development, and because of the flexibility of this system, when we deploy it to do other things--like air freight scanning--that´s when we´re going to really begin to generate savings," Beery said. "This initial deployment was based on the requirements that came from the Postal Service. That´s what this first deployment was all about--saving the business of being able to carry the mail."
